Man vs. Medicine

It’s common knowledge that men, including Dads, don’t see the doctor as often as they should. According to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), men are only half as likely to visit the doctor within a 2 year period. Missing these visits can be very dangerous. It is no coincidence that men also tend to die earlier than women.

Seeing the doctor at least once a year is very important. There is a lot the doctor can do to help you stay healthy (see more in the article below). Overall, they can help you stay well or spot problems early. In 2014, a survey was conducted to find out why men skip regular doctor’s visits. Here are the top 5 answers from that survey.

Too busy: 22%

Afraid of finding out something is wrong: 21%

Uncomfortable with body exams: 18%

Not wanting to be asked personal questions: 8%

Not wanting to learn their weight: 7%

Are any of those familiar? Are you avoiding a doctor’s visit right now or know someone who is? Most of these issues have to do with comfort, and they can be overcome. In honor of Father’s Day, we invite you to have a quick chat and encourage your Dad to schedule an appointment. Sometimes, just going over the reasons he isn’t going will help change his mind. If you are a dad, make your health a priority this Father’s Day and see your doctor.
