Meet Lester Wright, U.S. Navy Veteran and our CHPW IS&T Enterprise Infrastructure Manager

For November we wanted to recognize Veterans Day by shining a light one of the CHPW team who is a Veteran. Veterans Day is a day where we appreciate and recognize those who served our county in the military. For this edition of our 5 Questions series, we introduce you to Lester Wright. Lester served in the U.S. Navy for a decade before coming to CHPW.

How long have you been with Community Health Plan of Washington and what is your current role?

I’ve been with CHPW for 5 Years now. My job title is IS&T Enterprise Infrastructure Manager. What that means is that I am responsible for the Server Administration Team, Network team, Production support team and IT Service desk team. Collectively my teams ensure that all CHPW technology is working and supported for CHPW day-to-day work. That technology includes things like phones, computers, and our server environments. We are also the point of contact for all IT issues for staff and any outside partners.

What do you enjoy the most about your work at CHPW?

I like our overall mission to provide help and health care. I like the strong work-family feel that all the staff provide each other. When it comes to my role & work in infrastructure, I live by the position it’s our responsibility to ensure CHPW’s lights are on and the ‘doors’ are always open for business. I welcome having that responsibility and the teamwork it entails.

What branch of military were you in and where did you serve?

I was in the U.S. Navy for 10 years as a Weapon’s Technician 2nd class petty officer. I joined up and spent most of my career abroad. I was stationed on Guam for my first command, then I was assigned to the USS Ranger CV-61. After that I was transferred to Italy then the United Kingdom. My military career allowed me to work and visit 18 countries, and that experience really made me the person I am today.

What is something you have learned or accomplished that you are proud of either in your military experience, in your career, or in life in general?

During my time abroad I always tried to learn about local cultures where I could, and this allowed me to make friends around the world. Over 30 years of my military and civilian careers, I’ve learned that regardless of where people are from, we are all people.

If you have visitors from out of town, where do you like to take them to experience the Pacific Northwest?

I try to take them away from the cities. I take them to explore the Olympic National Park or the Northwest trek.
