Meet Tommy Khuu, Outreach & Enrollment Specialist.
The CHPW Call Center teams are licensed, friendly, and they know what works in Washington—because we’re based in Washington. We asked Tommy a few questions so that our community can get to know him and his work.
I have now been with CHPW for five years. My title, along with my team members, is “Outreach & Enrollment Specialist.” My role includes talking to callers about Medicare Advantage. I educate callers on plan options for Medicare Advantage and what Apple Health (Medicaid) is. My team and our department do all we can to make sure community members and our CHPW members have a clear understanding of what CHPW has to offer.
What about the job description or CHPW inspired you to apply?
In my previous job, I was a financial planner and my whole department was outsourced. After I saw the job posting, I thought I would go for it and learn something new. At the time I was assisting my mother-in-law with her health insurance. If I knew what I know now I would have gotten her enrolled with Apple Health.
How do you help callers choose a Medicare plan?
I help callers by listening to what they are looking for in a plan. We talk about the different Medicare Advantage plans and what works for them financially. Another thing we talk about is if we have a CHPW plan and providers in their area.
What is something you have recently learned or accomplished that you are proud of?
When I get Kudos*, it makes my day to know I have accomplished what I have set out to do daily.
What is your favorite season in Washington State and why?
Chinese New Year is a time when my wife and I get a chance to reconnect with friends and family. Also, my wife enjoys doing a lot of cooking.
