Through CHPW’s team of Regional Managers, people who live and work in dedicated Washington counties, CHPW is better positioned to collaborate with community partners, advocate for CHPW members and improve health experiences.

As a Regional Manager, Joe Contris works with local community partners to support the health of CHPW members. We asked Joe a few questions so that our community can get to know him and his work.

How long have you been with Community Health Plan of Washington, and what is your current role?

I have been with CHPW for three and half years and am a member of the Regional Systems Integration Team as the Pierce County Regional Manager. I am focused on convening Pierce County health care providers and other community stakeholders in support of our CHPW members and mission.

What about CHPW inspired you to apply for the role?

I was inspired to join CHPW given it is the only not-for-profit Managed Care Organization (MCO) that was established in the Pacific Northwest and serving the Pacific Northwest. My role as the Pierce County Regional Systems Integration Manager has allowed me to leverage my more than 30 years of working locally to create a strong and collaborative network with the Pierce County providers who support the community.

Why did you choose to pursue a career in health care?

I have a keen interest in helping people and how improving health care access plays a role in making communities healthier. I wanted to play an influential part in establishing new programs and enhancing existing ones to increase access and provide health care options that help individual and community healing.

What is something you have recently learned or accomplished that you are proud of?

I am quite proud of continuing to grow and enhance the professional relationships both internally with CHPW and with our wide-ranging network providers, stakeholders and government entities. Helping to improve access to care and expanding treatment options such as telehealth are two of the areas I am very proud of.

If you have visitors from out of town, where do you like to take them to experience the Pacific Northwest?

I love to take out-of-town visitors to Point Defiance Park, Mt. Rainier, and then take them for a drive along Ruston Way, where we can stop at one of the great restaurants on that route. The Lemay Car Museum is also a great treat. For musicians visiting from out of town, a trip to Guitar Maniacs is a must!
